For the Restless Achiever
Revelation 2:3–4 (KJV)
“And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.”
Reflection:
There are people who can wake up early, crush a workout, ace a test, or work long hours chasing success. They can organize a schedule, meet every deadline, and check off every goal. Yet when it comes to prayer, worship, or time in Scripture, they suddenly feel unmotivated or tired.
That is not because they do not love God, it is because the flesh is always eager to achieve in the world, but hesitant to surrender in the Spirit. The same drive that fuels worldly goals can quietly starve your faith if you do not aim it heavenward. Jesus commended the church in Revelation for their hard work and endurance. They were busy and disciplined but He reminded them they had left their first love. In other words, their passion for the mission had replaced their passion for the Master.
Type A believers often live in “go mode.” But faith requires moments of “be still” (Psalm 46:10). You do not earn God’s favor through performance; you receive His power through presence. If your calendar is full but your soul is empty, it is time to reorder priorities.
Use that same discipline you have in the gym, at work, or in your studies and point it toward your relationship with Christ. Schedule prayer time like a meeting. Treat Bible study like training. Build consistency, not perfection. Because true success is not measured by progress reports, but by the presence of God in your daily life.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
I thank You for giving me drive, focus, and ambition. But Lord, I confess that sometimes I chase every goal except You. Help me to realign my energy toward what matters most. Teach me to work hard in the world but rest deeply in You. Stir my heart to crave Your presence more than progress, and Your will more than my own. Remind me that success without You is just noise without meaning.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge for the Week:
Every morning this week, before checking your phone or starting your to-do list, give God the first 10 minutes of your day. Pray, read a psalm, or simply sit in silence and thank Him. Watch how this spiritual discipline refuels the drive inside you and turns your ambition into worship!
